Meet Dr. Marcus
David E. Marcus, M.D.
Dr. Marcus always wanted to be a doctor, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, uncles and cousins. He had always thought he would become a Family Physician, but from the moment of his first exposure to Plastic Surgery in Medical School, Dr. Marcus became inspired.
In his home state of Michigan, Dr. Marcus completed an undergraduate degree at Michigan State University and received his Medical School degree from Wayne State University in Detroit.
After Medical School, Dr. Marcus was very fortunate to be accepted into a General Surgery/Plastic Surgery Program at William Beaumont Hospital. This was a six-year commitment where he studied surgical principles in a variety of fields and then spent the final three years in the Plastic Surgery program concentrating on Plastic Surgery exclusively. Once the Plastic Surgery degree was completed, he then gained further expertise in the fields of Cosmetic Surgery for six months and then Microsurgery for six months in Springfield, Illinois.
in 1986, Dr. Marcus moved his young family to beautiful Sonoma County and began his solo plastic surgery practice. The first decade of practice was dedicated primarily to reconstructive plastic surgery. There were long days and nights of caring for trauma and burn victims, as well as cancer reconstructions of the face and body.
In 1999, Dr. Marcus opened his highly successful Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Santa Rosa on Sonoma Avenue. There he has specialized exclusively in Cosmetic Surgery of the breast, face and body.
Dr. Marcus is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a member of the prestigious American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. His career, his practice, his patients and his results have made him a highly-regarded plastic surgeon among his patients and colleagues.
He is known for his beautiful, natural-looking results in both his body and facial work. Dr. Marcus’ practice is exclusively Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, and his patients receive the highest level of medical care in his certified, state-of-the-art surgery suite. While Dr. Marcus is accomplished is all aspects of cosmetic surgery, he prides himself on the honesty and respect given to each individual who seeks his consultation, treating patients as if they were members of his own family.
Dr. Marcus and his wife Jacqueline have three sons. Jon is a middle school and high school math teacher in Marin, Evan works in the construction field and is a licensed real estate professional in Sonoma County, and Jordan is pursuing a career as a small animal veterinarian in Washington.
Dr. Marcus’s Philosophy
Plastic Surgery is not just about looks – how large your breasts are, how smooth we can make your face, or how flat your tummy is after a tummy tuck. Plastic Surgery is about happiness – how you feel.
Plastic Surgery is a medical art form which allows us to alter those facial and body areas that have been draining a person’s happiness. For instance, most breast augmentation patients seek surgery because their small (or large or sagging) breasts make them feel less feminine or less appealing to their spouses, or disproportionate whenever they try on clothes. This becomes a negative whenever they think about it, and it seems to drain their happiness. It makes them feel bad. It is the same with a sagging or aging face. Many women look in the mirror and are shocked and dismayed that the person staring back at them doesn’t look like the person they feel they are. They feel vibrant and healthy and young, but they hate looking in the mirror or having pictures taken. That’s a problem. It makes a person feel unhappy. A facelift can restore your face to the younger you, and that fear of having a photo taken disappears. Your happiness and the way you feel about yourself is no longer being denied by a mirror. Plus, I am convinced that there will be far fewer car accidents caused by women simulating a facelift pulling on their skin while looking in the rear view mirror! Just kidding, but you know who you are…
The idea of Plastic Surgery makes some of us feel vain. Well, if a person stands in front of the mirror all day and feels the need to look perfect to be accepted, he or she might very well be vain. Cosmetic Surgery is not for them because it will never make them happy. They will still feel the same way after a procedure because theirs may be a self-worth issue that cannot be solved with surgery.
Most of us, however, just want to look as good as we feel, or erase a body imperfection that bothers us. DON’T FORGET: the happier you are, the happier you make those around you. It’s just a fact. Therefore, having a procedure done that makes you feel better about yourself will be reflected onto all those you come into contact with – especially your family. A happy mom, dad, husband or wife, is a good thing for everyone. I have seen this, literally, a thousand times.
Lastly, from a philosophical point of view, if you see my website or any advertisement, that makes you feel you need Plastic Surgery, then I have failed you and I apologize. The last thing I want to do is make you feel self-conscious about your face or body. On the other hand, if you are researching a procedure and already looking for a Plastic Surgeon, I would consider it a privilege to be your Plastic Surgeon.
