Liposuction, also called lipoplasty or suction-assisted lipectomy, is a proven and safe surgical procedure that removes excess fat deposits from the body. Many men and women are within a normal weight range for their height and build but have isolated fat pockets that do not respond to diet and exercise. Some healthy but overweight individuals may also struggle with areas of stubborn fat. Localized fat is often an inherited trait, and liposuction is usually the only way to eliminate it. Liposuction can remove localized collections of unwanted fatty tissue from almost anywhere on the body to produce a smoother, leaner body contour.

I wanted to let you know, in writing, how pleased I am with the results of my cosmetic surgeries and to compliment you and your staff for a very positive experience. I was immediately impressed, on my first visit for a facelift consult, with your professional manner and thoroughness in answering my questions and discussing at length the procedures and anticipated outcome. Your reputation as an “artist” was upheld with the ‘refreshment’ of my face, and the recent liposuction of my mid-section has fulfilled my life-long dream of having a flat stomach. You and your team are all efficient, caring, accommodating and friendly – making it a pleasure to be a patient there. I, at 60 years young, feel great about the results and the feedback from my friends and my mirror tell me I look great, too.
This is just a short letter to express my gratitude for the wonderful work you’ve done for me. To date I’ve had liposuction, tummy tuck and laser surgery on my face. I wanted to thank you all for making these surgeries such a pleasant experience. You, Dr. Marcus, made sure that I was fully aware of what I could expect so that my expectations were realistic, and your wonderful office staff was caring and informative to the “nth” degree. I have nothing but the highest regard for the work I’ve had done and look forward to having more done in the future with you. You have allowed me to have the self-confidence that I lacked for so many years. Thank you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ideal candidates for liposuction are individuals within a healthy weight range but with isolated areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Healthy but overweight patients may also be good candidates. Some individuals may also be candidates for CoolSculpting®, which is a non-invasive fat removal treatment that freezes fat cells so that the body flushes them out.
Liposuction can be used almost anywhere on the body. It is most often used to slim down the thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, knees, calves, ankles, neck, and upper arms.
Although infrequent, some complications can occur with this surgery. These include bleeding, infection, and reactions to the anesthesia. Some skin numbness is to be expected after surgery, but this is usually only temporary. It is possible for some numbness to persist or even be permanent. Skin discoloration and irregularity may occur in some instances.
Liposuction can target multiple areas of the body in a single treatment session. For most patients, it is not likely that more than one session will be needed to achieve their desired results. For others, small, secondary touch-up procedures may sometimes be helpful.
