Guide to Injectables

Injectables are non-surgical treatments that enhance your appearance. Depending on the type of injectable, these treatments can reduce fat, improve skin volume, eliminate lines and wrinkles, augment certain features, and help patients look more youthful overall. Injectables can be used on the face, neck, and hands to help patients look their best.

Dr. David E. Marcus and our nurse practitioner, Nancy Honsa, combine technical skills with an artistic approach to produce results completely customized according to the needs, goals, and facial structure of the patient.

Thinking About Injectables?

Our nurse practitioner, Nancy Honsa, has worked in healthcare and aesthetic medicine for many years and regularly attends advanced courses and training seminars on the use of injectables for facial enhancement. Passionate about her field of work, Nancy works with products and treatments that both treat and prevent many symptoms of facial aging. Nancy works with Dr. Marcus using expert techniques and advanced technologies to help patients restore and maintain a softer, more youthful appearance.

Certain types of injectables are designed to improve the contours of the face and neck. For example, dermal fillers can improve facial volume so that the face looks more youthful and soft. KYBELLA® is an injectable that can permanently destroy fat beneath the chin and restore a smooth, slender neckline. Injectables can help patients achieve more desirable definition and attractive contours in the face and neck.

Wrinkles, lines, and folds are common signs of aging and can cause you to look old, worn, and tired. Injectables such as neuromodulators and dermal fillers can minimize fine lines and wrinkles in the face. The results of treatment help you have smoother, younger-looking skin.

Age-related volume loss can lead to facial hollows and thin lips. It can also cause the hands to look bony and gnarled. Injectable fillers can restore volume in the face and hands to create a more youthful and attractive appearance. Fillers can also enhance lip and cheek volume to highlight these features and improve facial contours.

Your Injectable Treatment Options

Dr. Marcus or our aesthetic nurse practitioner, Nancy Honsa, will evaluate your health, your goals, and your anatomy to determine which injectable(s) will help you achieve your goals.

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® Injections to Eliminate Wrinkles

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are neuromodulators that weaken the facial muscles that cause wrinkles.
  • These injectables can smooth frown lines between the brows, lines across the forehead, and crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes.
  • BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® can also reduce muscle tightness in the chin and nose.
  • Nancy, our nurse practitioner, will administer your injections.
  • Injection takes 10 to 15 minutes, after which patients can return home with no recovery or downtime.

BOTOX® for Severe Underarm Sweating

  • BOTOX® injections treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating when topical medications are ineffective.
  • Patients experience reduced underarm sweating four weeks after injections.
  • Subsequent treatments are needed, as results are temporary and last up to six months.

Dermal Fillers to Soften Wrinkles and Enhance Volume

  • Dermal fillers can reverse signs of aging by smoothing facial lines, improving facial volume, improving hand volume, enhancing lip fullness, and filling in hollows.
  • Nurse Practitioner Nancy Honsa will guide you toward the right filler(s) for you and will administer your injections.
  • Restylane®, a hyaluronic acid filler, treats moderate to severe wrinkles around the mouth and can improve the volume and shape of the lips.
  • Restylane® Silk, a hyaluronic acid filler, treats vertical lines around the mouth and subtly enhances lip fullness.
  • Restylane® Lyft, a hyaluronic acid filler, smooths nasolabial folds (smile lines) and enhances volume to lift the cheeks.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, a hyaluronic acid filler, adds volume and lift to the cheeks.
  • Sculptra® Aesthetic, a synthetic polylactic acid filler, stimulates collagen production to improve overall volume and correct broad depressions, sunken cheeks, creases, and folds.
  • RADIESSE®, a calcium hydroxylapatite filler, stimulates collagen production and improves hand volume to minimize prominent tendons and veins so that the hands look younger.

KYBELLA® for Neck Fat Removal

  • KYBELLA® can eliminate fat beneath the chin to create a more slender and defined neckline.
  • Dr. Marcus or Nancy, NP, will administer your KYBELLA® treatment.
  • KYBELLA® treatment takes approximately 20 minutes, after which patients can return home.
  • While there is no recovery or downtime after this treatment, there will be swelling in the treated area for a few days afterward.
  • Results improve gradually over six to eight weeks as the injected deoxycholic acid breaks down fat cells.
  • About 50 percent of patients will need only one treatment; the rest may need two to four treatments spaced four weeks apart to achieve their desired results.

After Your Treatment

Injectables have no downtime, and the treatments can be repeated as needed to maintain a more youthful and attractive appearance. Depending on the injectable(s) used, patients can expect their results to last for the following lengths of time before treatment should be repeated:

3 to 6 Months

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® results take one to two weeks for full treatment to take effect and last from three to six months; however, results may continue to last longer as muscles learn to relax.

6 Months

Restylane®, Restylane® Silk, and Restylane® Lyft produce immediate results that last up to six months.

1 Year

RADIESSE® produces immediate results that continue to improve up to one year after treatment.

1 to 2 Years

Sculptra® Aesthetic produces results that improve over time and last from one to two years.

2 Years

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC produces immediate results that last up to two years.

After the one to four treatments, KYBELLA® produces results that improve over time and become permanent.

Frequently Asked Questions

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® limit muscle contractions to prevent wrinkles from forming. However, they do not eliminate your ability to show certain facial expressions. Patients will be able to make the same facial expressions but will show fewer lines and wrinkles while doing so.

Candidacy for treatment with injectables depends largely on your goals, your health, and the type of injectable(s) you wish to receive. Certain factors (such as pregnancy) may disqualify you from being a candidate. Nurse Practitioner Nancy will outline your options and qualifications for treatment during your consultation.

Injectables are designed to accommodate different needs. For instance, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be perfect for someone looking to eliminate frown lines, whereas Restylane® Silk might be the best treatment for someone seeking to enhance thinning lips. Dr. Marcus and Nancy Honsa, NP, are extremely familiar with the advantages of each injectable and can help you determine which will be best for your needs. Multiple injectables may also be used to achieve ideal results.

Injectables can accommodate many needs and can significantly enhance your appearance. However, surgery may be a better alternative for individuals who need more extensive, long-lasting correction. During your consultation, Dr. Marcus or Nancy Honsa, NP, will advise you of the best treatment options for your needs and will devise a personalized treatment plan for you.

The cost of your injectable treatment will depend on which injectable(s) you receive, which areas are treated, and how many treatment sessions you undergo. Depending on the type of injectable, secondary treatments may be discounted. We encourage our patients to participate in our rewards programs as well as product rewards programs that can help them accrue discounts on certain products.
