Eyelid surgery can remove excess skin, bags and pouches from under and above the eyes. Sometimes an eyebrow lift is also performed to raise drooping eyebrows and help eliminate creases on the outside of the eye. These procedures will not eliminate crow's feet, however, Botox can help this condition. Also, while dark circles cannot be eliminated, the problem is often greatly improved because some darkness can be caused by shadows or excess skin. Dr. Marcus might also recommend laser skin resurfacing instead of, or in addition to eyelid surgery in some circumstances. More about this procedure.
Eyelid surgery usually takes between one to three hours. Dr. Marcus will make incisions along your natural skin lines, remove excess skin (which causes the wrinkles) and excess fat (which causes the pouches), and close the incisions. After surgery you may experience some discomfort, but this should be easily controlled by medication. Swelling and bruising can be reduced by resting and keeping cold compresses on your eyes at least the first day after surgery. Typically, most patients are up and around two to three days after surgery. Sutures are usually removed in less than a week, and the bruising (which can usually be covered by makeup) and swelling will gradually subside. Any and all scars will usually fade and become barely visible over the next month or two. Afterwards you should look refreshed and alert. And although many people may remark on your improved appearance, most will not know you have eyelid surgery unless you tell them. It is remarkable how a little improvement in your eyes can cause such a dramatic improvement in your appearance. Consultation Request Form | About
