Breast Augmentation

3d proceduresBreast augmentation, or augmentation mammaplasty, can enhance the size of your breasts as well as give you a better-proportioned figure. It is designed to increase the size of small breasts, correct breast assymetry, and improve the appearance of breasts that have lost their volume and shape due to weight loss, childbirth, or simply as a result of aging.

In additional to traditional augmentation procedures, Dr. Marcus also performs breast augmentation endoscopically through a belly-button approach, thereby avoiding any scar on the breast itself. This technique is referred to as Transumbilical Breast Augmentation (or TUBA) or "scarless" breast implant surgery. Most patients who have had this procedure report decreased recovery/down time, less post-operative wound care and less pain. Dr. Marcus is one of the few plastic surgeons trained in and performing this technique in Northern California and is pleased to offer it to his patients as an option. More about this procedure.

Purpose To increase the size and enhance the shape of the breasts.
Length of Procedure 1-1 1/2 hours
Anesthesia Local anesthesia with sedation, or general
In or Outpatient Outpatient in private, in-office surgical suite (fully certified)

Breast augmentations are performed by Dr. Marcus in his fully accredited, office surgical suite. Surgery is usually performed under sedation by a board certified anesthesiologist so you will sleep (or be very drowsy) through the entire one to two hour operation. In some cases, general anesthesia may be recommended. Be sure to arrange to have someone drive you home after surgery and stay with you at least the first night following surgery.

After surgery, medication can control any pain or discomfort, which should subside in a day or two. Swelling and some bruising of the breasts will disappear gradually. You will be up and about a day or two after surgery and can return to work within a few days (depending on your healing), however, you should still take it easy and avoid any lifting. Sutures will come out within a week, and scars should begin to fade gradually and usually become barely noticeable.
